Château des Vaults

Domaine du Closel

Château des Vaults

Our family estate, whose history reaches back to 1495, lies in Anjou on the banks of the Loire — rooted in one of the exceptional terroirs of the Savennières appellation, unfolding between hillsides and wooded valleys.

At the heart of this Angevin landscape stands the Château des Vaults, in the classic style of the 17ᵗʰ century, surrounded by its agricultural parkland — meadows, centuries-old trees and a former kitchen garden — mirrored by its branch of the Loire.

Le vignoble du Domaine du Closel et son paysage

Domaine du Closel has made it a priority to honour this singular landscape, its biodiversity, and its schist terroirs.

Wine is a patient work, born of gesture and transmission. It is the fruit of the know-how of generations of women and men.

Aware of these riches, a contemporary evolution is carried on, guided by attention to the living and the pursuit of balance. The vines have been farmed organically since 2007, and biodynamically since 2015.

Paysage de Savennières

Savennières

The Savennières appellation extends along the hillsides of the right bank of the Loire. It is recognised for the remarkable expression of its white wines from chenin — a demanding grape that finds here one of its truest interpretations.

Punctuated by remarkable trees and crossed by coulées, this landscape shapes a singular microclimate. The result is a harmony that reveals wines of great complexity.

The subsoil — volcanic and metamorphic rocks dating from the Paleozoic — shapes the vineyard's identity. Erosion reveals schists, sandstones, rhyolites, spilites and phtanites.
